  • 25 years of hands-on experience in the patent field, both as an IP consultant in private practice and as an in-house patent professional

Hans acquired his PhD thesis in 1997 in the field of combustion physics. In parallel with his PhD studies, from 1994, Hans was trained and worked as a patent attorney at Awapatent AB, focusing on patent drafting, patent prosecution and oppositions.

In 2000, Hans took on a position as Patent Counsel at Anoto AB in Lund, a startup company set to build a strong patent portfolio. Hans was responsible for in-house tasks such as implementing internal IP processes, increasing IP awareness, analyzing the IP landscape, building and managing the patent portfolio, and outsourcing and coordinating patent activities. Hans also gained vast experience from international patent prosecution, e.g. in the US, China and Japan. Hans was also actively involved in international license negotiations and litigation.

In 2007, Hans moved back to private practice to help set up a local office in Lund for Brann AB. Apart from regular drafting and prosecution work, Hans devoted time to advising start-up companies on strategic and organizational issues, performing portfolio analyses, interfacing with VC companies and other investors on behalf of clients, leading brainstorming sessions, preparing risk and competitor analyses, and handling complex patent transactions. Hans was also employed as an internal thought leader and held a position on the Board of Directors.

In 2010, Hans founded Dr Hans Neij PatentbyrÄ AB and joined forces with Olle Lindberg in 2013 to start the new IP law firm Neij & Lindberg AB.

Hans has also been active as a jury member in the enterprise challenge Vecture Cup.
