Cecilia Perklev

  • MSc in Engineering Physics
  • European Patent Attorney, Authorized Swedish IP Attorney
  • Over 35 years of hands-on experience in the patent field, both as an IP consultant in private practice and as an in-house patent professional

Experience:

Cecilia’s career within the patent field started in 1982 at Awapatent AB in Malmö, where she was trained to be a patent attorney. During a 20 year period, Cecilia represented small and large companies as well as individual inventors in patent matters. The work as a patent attorney included all aspects of patent rights, from drafting of patent applications to defending and challenging granted patents in opposition and court proceedings. During her time at Awapatent, Cecilia also got experience of management work by serving on the Board of Directors and as a member of the management team with special responsibility for the overall competence development of patent attorneys. Additionally, Cecilia was involved in Awapatent’s trainee program, both as an organizer and as a lecturer.

As one of the first in Sweden, Cecilia passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) in 1992, the EQE being a prerequisite for a patent attorney to be authorized to represent clients before the European Patent Office. Over the next decade, Cecilia developed and headed Awapatent’s successful training program for EQE candidates together with a colleague.

In 1999 Cecilia started to work as an outside patent counsel for Anoto AB, a newly founded company with a digital pen that captures hand-writing as the main invention to protect. Four years later Cecilia was employed as patent manager at Anoto. For more than 10 years Cecilia headed the work at the patent department and participated in the creation of a patent portfolio of more than four hundred granted patents.

The position at Anoto also involved responsibility for other fields of IP, like trademark and design rights, that Cecilia worked actively with. Another field of focus was the development of cost-effective management of the IP business. During the first years at Anoto, Cecilia devoted a large part of her time to the coordination of Anoto’s participation in a U.S. patent lawsuit where Anoto eventually prevailed

In 2014 Cecilia returned to private practice. She currently works as a patent attorney at Neij & Lindberg AB.
